Rules and Procedures

Students

Be punctual to all rehearsals. Arrive at the Durham Arts Council in plenty of time to check in with an assistant director, pick up your music folder and any handouts and be in your seat by the time the rehearsal begins. Late-comers should check-in immediately upon arrival. A written note is necessary for early dismissal from a rehearsal.

DO NOT ROAM ABOUT THE BUILDING AT ANY TIME. We are the guests of the Durham Arts Council and its' administration. Please treat these facilities with respect.

We encourage singers to bring a water bottle with them to rehearsal.

There are snack machines located in the Durham Arts Council; however, we will NOT be able to provide the singers with correct change or assist when the machines are out of order. Many parents send their children with a healthy snack, which is MUCH more preferable to using the costly machines! With our staggered schedule we will NOT have a planned break in the rehearsal; children will be able to use the restrooms as needed, with permission from a parent monitor or a mentor.

Members of the DCC are responsible for taking home any handouts that are distributed at rehearsals. These notices are sometimes the only way we will be able to stay in contact with your parents and families.

At all times show respect for each other, the directors, parent volunteers, staff and the facilities. Pay attention to the Director at ALL times. Do not behave in a manner which is disruptive or distracting to fellow singers, directors or the accompanist, or which prohibits a positive and successful rehearsal. Any singer who fails to meet the highest standards of good conduct will be asked to leave the rehearsal and may have to drop out of the choir.

Mentors

Singers who have "graduated" from DCC after the 8th grade are permitted to remain in the choir as mentors, as long as their voices have not changed dramatically! (This especially applies to boys.) Mentors will help younger singers as needed and provide assistance to the directors. They will continue to be members of DCC and participate in all performances and activities.

Parents

Parent assistance is vital to the success of the Durham Children's Choir! We especially need Parent Monitors at all rehearsals to check in singers, help with locating music and assist the directors as needed.

Communications between the directors and parents will be provided in numerous ways, including handouts and e-mails. Please check out "Latest News" section of the website often.

Parents and interested members of the community are always welcome and are encouraged to observe rehearsals as space allows.

When dropping off or picking up singers, parents are urged to be aware of traffic and parking patterns for the Durham Arts Council. We will have parents stationed in the parking area to assist the pick-up of children after rehearsals. Any child not picked up more than 15 minutes after the rehearsal will be in danger of being excluded from the DCC, unless prior arrangements have been made with one of the directors.
